Experts Offer Advice for Fall Transformations

Trying to stay fit while balancing schoolwork this season just got easier. With the latest beauty advice, outdoor activities, and naturally healthy foods, women will find it to be second nature.
One of the most important keys to staying healthy, especially as the seasons change and the chilly weather begins to set in is sleep.
Kay Higgins, associate dean of student development, of the Women’s Resource Center said there is “nothing you can do to substitute sleep.” Cheating themselves of sleep is one of the biggest mistakes college women make, she said.
Eating is another side of staying healthy, and some of the best foods for you are now in season. It used to be the thought that women only eat salads, but eating lettuce for a week deprives the body, Higgins said. It’s important to take advantage of fresh produce in peak, such as apples, squash, sweet potatoes, and pears. Recipezaar.com and centralmarket.com always have plenty of recipe ideas on their Web sites. It’s also about balance, being about to find those few moments in a day.
“How about the idea of finding a friend, grabbing an apple and taking a walk around campus,” said Marcy Paul, associate director of the institute of women and gender. “Go find out one new thing about a friend this week.”
As the heat has almost left us, it’s now more enjoyable to walk to a park, and integrate the equipment there into your workout. Do lunges up the stairs, use the monkey bars to do pull ups and use trees to do push-ups. Take advantage of what’s around you.
Getting enough sleep and working out are not always all it takes to look your best every day. Nordstrom make-up artist Desiree Chartier said that warm colors, grays and smokey eyes are in this season. It’s easier than every to make the transition from day to night, by simply adding to your makeup instead of wiping the whole thing off.
“False lashes are getting more popular now, as well as eye shadow sets,” Chartier said.
Setting goals each week, and taking them one day at a time is something every woman should do. Start with a few basic such as simple exercises in the morning to get the blood flowing, substituting frozen grapes for chips, walking with a friend, reading a new book, and stretching before bed at night.
Start implementing these ideas for how to stay healthy and happy in the fall season, you’ll see that staying fit while balancing schoolwork is as easy as a walk in the park.
